Collaborative Zine Workshop With Rachel Simmons, Cornell Fine Arts Center, Studio 107, 6-8 pm May 9, 2024
In anticipation of the upcoming CBAA meeting at Rollins, we’ll be working on a second edition of our 2019 collaboration “WHY WE LOVE BOOKS.” During the May meeting, we’ll discuss ideas, make production plans, and start the zine by making our own pages as examples. Then at CBAA meeting on June 8th, our volunteers with work with CBAA participants on folios that the can contribute. Supplies/materials will be provided including transfer lettering, typewriters, collage & drawing materials as well as a laser printer. Participants are encouraged to bring pages from their favorite banned books and/or pre-written text about what books mean to them,

About the Instructor:
Rachel Simmons is an American artist and art educator who specializes in book arts & printmaking, and her diverse studio practice is informed by both environmental activism, language and personal narratives. Endlessly curious about the natural world and our relationship with it, Rachel often collaborates with scholars from other academic disciplines and communities to create new work. She has traveled to Antarctica, Iceland, Namibia, the Galapagos Islands and many of the US National Parks to research environmental issues pertaining to these projects. Rachel teaches in the Department of Art & Art History at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. Rachel has been an active member of the Book Arts Guild of Central Florida and The Association for Book Arts Education (CBAA) since 2018.
